7 Reasons people don’t work through their traumas

So many people sit in emotional discomfort, and often physical discomfort because their past traumas are causing them to behave in certain ways that don’t allow them to operate at optimum levels and live a happy, truly fulfilling life.

There are many reasons why people may find it difficult to work on their traumas. Here are some possible factors:

1.Fear: Trauma can be a very difficult and painful experience, and the prospect of revisiting it can be terrifying. People may be afraid of reliving the trauma, or of experiencing intense emotions that they may not be able to handle.

2.Shame: Some people may feel ashamed or embarrassed about their trauma, or may feel like they are somehow responsible for what happened to them. This can make it difficult to open up and talk about the experience, even with a therapist or loved one.

3.Lack of support: Trauma can be isolating, and people may feel like they are the only ones who have experienced what they have gone through. They may also lack support from friends or family members who don’t understand the impact of trauma or who are not able to offer the kind of support they need.

4.Difficulty trusting others: Trauma can damage a person’s ability to trust others, especially if the trauma was caused by someone they trusted. This can make it difficult to open up to a therapist or to rely on others for support.

5.Coping mechanisms: People may have developed coping mechanisms, such as avoidance or substance use, that help them deal with the emotional pain of their trauma. While these coping mechanisms may provide short-term relief, they can also prevent people from addressing the underlying issues and working through their trauma.

6.Lack of awareness: Some people may not be aware that their symptoms or behaviors are related to trauma. They may not realize that their anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties are rooted in past experiences.

7.Stigma: There is still a lot of stigma around mental health issues, and some people may feel ashamed or embarrassed to seek help for trauma-related problems. They may also fear being judged or labeled by others.

It’s important to note that everyone’s experience with trauma is unique, and there may be many other factors that contribute to why someone may find it difficult to work on their trauma. However, with the right support and resources, it is possible for people to heal from their trauma and move forward in a positive direction. Working with me is safe, secure and comfortable during the process. Even when it’s uncomfortable.

Drop me a line and let’s talk. Jx
